Toothpaste research by the Consumers' Association
Toothpaste Research by the Consumers' Association
In a recent study by the Consumers' Association (January 11, 2024), which examined various renowned toothpaste brands (16 in total), alarming results came to light. Many toothpastes on the market contain worrying ingredients such as titanium dioxide, SLS, and microplastics. The cleaning efficacy and fluoride content of many toothpaste brands are subpar. Finally, the brands score poorly on sustainability, and no leading A-brand appears to be fully vegan (with the exception of Hema).
Most concerning is the presence of hazardous substances in many toothpastes, including titanium dioxide, a possible carcinogen. Another alarming finding was the insufficient cleaning efficacy of no less than 56% of the tested toothpastes. The study also revealed that only 19% of the tested toothpastes had the correct fluoride content.
