SLS in tandpasta: wat is het en wil je het gebruiken?

SLS in toothpaste: what is it and do you want to use it?

Do you get a lot of foam when brushing your teeth? Chances are there is SLS in your toothpaste.
SLS stands for Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and has been used for decades in toothpaste, shampoo and cleaning products. It creates foam and gives that familiar "I'm-really-clean" feeling.

But: feeling clean is not always the same as being clean.

What exactly does SLS do?

SLS breaks down fats and dirt and evenly distributes ingredients in the mouth. That's fine in itself. The problem lies in how aggressive it is.

In many people, SLS can:

  • dry out the oral mucosa
  • disrupt the natural protective layer
  • cause a burning or tight sensation
  • worsen or trigger canker sores
  • irritate sensitive or bleeding gums

Not everyone reacts to this with the same intensity, but with daily use (2-3 times a day) and two minutes of brushing, there is certainly a chance that you will experience discomfort.

More foam ≠ better cleaning

A persistent myth: the more foam, the better the toothpaste works.
In reality, foam has no direct impact on cleaning your teeth or protecting your enamel. Protection comes from active ingredients such as fluoride or nano-hydroxyapatite, not from SLS.

The foam is mainly sensory: it feels effective, but adds little to oral health.

Why more and more people avoid SLS

More and more dentists and dental hygienists advise trying SLS-free toothpaste for sensitive gums, canker sores, or dry mouth. Not because SLS is "bad," but because it is often unnecessarily harsh.

Especially if you:

  • have sensitive gums
  • are prone to canker sores
  • brush your teeth multiple times a day
  • already consciously choose mild, natural care

then omitting SLS can make a noticeable difference.

Why ReBloom Care is SLS-free

ReBloom Care consciously chooses SLS-free formulas. SLS is not compatible with daily self-care.

What you do get:

  • effective cleaning
  • proven enamel protection
  • true freshness from natural (peppermint) mint
  • a mouth that feels calm and clean, even after brushing

What you don't get:

  • excessive foam
  • a burning 'clean' feeling
  • unnecessary irritation

The result? The same level of 'clean', but gentler. Exactly what a daily routine needs.

Self-care sometimes lies in what you omit

Good oral care isn't about more ingredients, but about the right ones.
SLS is not a must. Freshness doesn't have to be aggressive. And self-care doesn't have to foam to work.

ReBloom Care. Selfcare, twice a day.
